Real-World Learning as an Agent of Equity

Limited Capacity full

Real-world learning experiences can be a powerful tool for increasing equity for your students. The work of San Diego Met and Big Picture Learning is student-centered, interest-based learning in real-world settings, primarily internships. But the tools and practices we use can be applied to almost any educational context. In this workshop, you will see examples of how real-world learning integrates equitable practices to increase access and personalization for every student. Then you will be challenged to create an authentic plan of action to improve real-world learning opportunities and develop real-world mindsets in your own educational environment. In so doing, you will engage in a problem-solving process you can implement with your own students, and possibly even empower them to become agents of equity themselves.
