Limited Capacity full

Teachers get into teaching to make a difference for kids. But the system’s stacked against them. Through no fault of their own, they too often work in silos, disconnected from their peers. They don’t have ample time to get to know their school and district leaders – and leaders don't get to know them – which stifles trust and growth. And, they’re expected to improve on their own, no longer having fun doing what they love.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

This session will help educators of all stripes learn how to leverage video technology to connect, collaborate, and transform their school culture. Through a series of activities beginning with a critical discussion of multimedia fluency and its role within the reading, writing, speaking, and listening framework, participants will examine their personal biases as they relate to multimedia using the U Theory approach to generative dialogue. Participants will experience the impact of video through reflective interviews, exploring visual composition, and developing a feel for the editing process. Plus, both in and out of the building, participants will use video in creative ways, equipping them to reimagine teaching and learning for their students, their schools, and themselves. Participants will leave this session with a foundational understanding of our current media landscape and the transformative power of video for our professional worlds.
