Come Write a Play in a Day! Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your (Equity and Education) Story?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity filling up

In this entirely hands-on session, we will start with your prior understanding of issues of equity and education, and translate those ideas and questions into a format that can quickly engage audiences by having you learn how to write a short play. Theater is the only art form where artists and audiences must both be present together, and must forge connections together to cultivate a community. The challenge and opportunity of theater is that it requires everyone to use their imaginations to tell a story, often times stories that might be impossible to tell realistically. We will ask together what dimensions of diversity, equity, and inclusion – as connected to deeper learning – might best be explored through such theatrical storytelling.
You will learn about narrative story structures that work on stage, will go through a structured process to write (and re-write) a short play, will work with professional actors to further develop character and dialogue, practice giving and receiving feedback, and then have a live reading of your play done by the company of professional actors.
This session is designed specifically for those with absolutely no prior playwriting experience; if you're written a play before, please find another awesome session at the Deeper Learning conference to attend, and instead show up at the exhibition to cheer on those who are just now trying their hands at playwriting.
Participants in this Deep Dive need to bring a laptop to this session.
