As anyone who has tried it can attest, Project Based Learning is difficult. Developing and executing an engaging project that teaches content and skills, while integrating curriculum and building community is no easy task. In this workshop, we will work toward unpacking what goes into developing badass projects that allow student access, require deep content knowledge, are highly engaging, build real community within the school and beyond, and are shareable with an outside audience. This is no quick fix to the challenges inherent in doing PBL. Rather, it is a process that takes time and hard work, but produces results on the cutting edge of what classrooms are capable of doing. Participants will do a photography project as a lens through which to look at longitudinal project design. We will spend time unpacking what went into that work and move from there into our current frontier of integrating photography into augmented reality software that opens up how an audience can experience the work. This workshop is intended for all teachers, educators, and administrators who want to learn a bit more about Project Based Learning, whether you are new to the profession or a seasoned veteran. Brian has eighteen years of experience doing PBL. He has failed at this often, and is excited to share a bit of what he learned along the journey so others do not have to make those same mistakes.
