For Deep Dives offered on Thursday 3/29, please select 1 experience from the list of Deep Dives (red icon type) and add it to your schedule. This is an immersive and interactive experience that culminates in an exhibition.

For all other conference events, including Workshops offered in Round 1, Round 2, and Round 3, please select your preferred sessions and add them to your schedule. Workshops will run on a first come, first-served basis. If the room is full, please select another session to attend.

JoAnn Groh is the co-founder of the two Paulo Freire Freedom Schools, PFFS-Downtown and PFFS-University (demonstration/lab schools) in Tucson, AZ and has served as a PFFS principal for the last 13 years. Prior to PFFS, JoAnn was a Social Studies and Language Arts teacher at Catalina Foothills High School in Tucson for 10 years during which time she received a national award from NEA for her work with colleagues around professional learning communities using the ‘critical friendship’ model. She received coaches training in this model in 1997 from the Annenberg Institute for School Reform. In addition to her experience as a classroom teacher and small school principal, JoAnn has consulted with schools around the country on a variety of educational issues. She worked for 5 years with the Ohio High School Transformation Initiative, a large school reform effort funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates and KnowledgeWorks foundations, as a Teaching & Learning and Literacy Coach. She is a national facilitator with the School Reform Initiative, training teachers in facilitate professional learning communities in the 'critical friendship' model since 1999. She served as an external coach, working with leadership and teacher teams for several years in Tulsa, Oklahoma with three Turnaround Schools. She also worked with 12 schools in Alexandria, Virginia, facilitating teacher teams in Instructional Rounds using Battelle for Kids model. JoAnn is a National Faculty member of the Buck Institute for Education (BIE), the leading organization promoting project based instruction and facilitates BIE’s ‘PBL 101’ trainings around the country.
