San Diego Met High School
Internship Coordinator
Greater San Diego Area
“If we want our students to succeed in the world beyond the classroom walls, we must encourage them to experience it now.” Robert Fung is a champion of real-world learning experiences as a core component of 21st century education for every student. As Internship Coordinator at San Diego Met, a Big Picture Learning school, he makes this vision a reality by recruiting community members to act as mentors, training students to become internship-ready, and helping teachers navigate the world of work-based learning. His work with Big Picture Learning includes coaching educators around the country to implement internship programs and connect students with opportunities to pursue their interests in authentic work environments.

Robert received a BA in English from the University of Chicago, and then worked in the real estate industry for nine years. His business experience would prove to be instrumental when he made a career shift to education in 2013. At San Diego Met, he found that his true passion was using his business background to create opportunities for students to experience the world of work, to learn by doing, and to explore their passions alongside mentors who care about their growth.

As an educator, Robert is driven by his belief that when we personalize learning for one student at a time, they will be empowered to access the learning that matters most to them, create a positive impact within their communities, and actively pursue their goals.
